Activate your fire pump from anywhere with Davey's remote start technology. Start your pump before you get home during emergencies, or trigger it after you've evacuated to safety—giving you complete control and peace of mind during bushfire season.

This guide covers how Davey's remote start pumps work and the best ways to use them to protect your property.

What is remote start technology?

Remote start transforms your firefighter pump into an intelligent defence system you can activate from anywhere. No need to be physically present to turn it on. There are three ways it can activate:

1. SMS activation: text your pump to turn it on, from Melbourne, interstate or overseas. If you have phone reception, you will have an upper hand to protect your property remotely.

2. Automatic heat sensor activation: sensors that automatically trigger your pump when temperatures hit dangerous levels. Your pump starts even if you can't respond.

3. Scheduled timing: program your pump to run during high-risk periods. Set it and forget it on total fireban days.

How it works

Davey's remote start system uses a built-in modem with 4G connectivity. You install a SIM card (like a mobile phone) in the pump's control unit and it will have a mobile number. Send an SMS command to this mobile number and the pump's Honda GX270E electric start engine activates within 15-60 seconds.

Frequently asked questions

The remote start service subscription costs $130 per year, with the first year free.

Absolutely. Share the SMS activation number with family members or trusted neighbours This creates backup if you're unreachable, others can still activate your system.

The pump stores your last activation command locally. If connection drops, it continues operating based on that instruction. You also have a manual override by physically start the pump using the electric start button or backup recoil starter.

Yes. The pump runs on petrol (not mains electricity) and the remote control system operates on battery power with mobile network connectivity, all independent of the electricity grid.
